[New Monster] Emissary of the Carrion Lord

Emissary of the Carrion Lord

‘There’s that sound again!’ Koram exclaimed.

Valance looked up from his study.

‘What sound?’

‘There appears to be a tapping, a tapping at our chamber door,’ replied the fighter.

‘I’ll get it,’ chimed in Chalk.

Valance raised a hand.

‘No, maybe….’ the priest of the Spider God began.

Too late, the wizard answered the door. A trio of strange creatures stood at the threshold, odd bird people that looked somewhat like angry crows, one clenched his fists angrily, fists that resembled clawed bird’s feet.

‘That’s him!’ one of the things said, pointing at Valance.

Another of the creatures stared grimly at the cleric.

‘Cheating at cards with an Emissary of the Carrion Lord?’

The trio drew their swords and rushed in as Koram kicked over a table and the others sprang into action.

At first these thin avian humanoids are often confused with similar creatures, such as Those Who Keep the Dead (q.v.) or some sort of tall kenku or tengu. In reality these are the heralds and messengers of the fowl Carrion Lord, King Crow, and if anything, these grim creatures assist Those Who keep the Dead by providing more corpses for their feathered cousins.

Emissaries of the Carrion Lord appear as tall, thin humanoid crows with long beaks and strong, grasping clawed hands. Shiny black feathered wings allow these monsters to be swift flyers in combat. It is not uncommon for these creatures to carry a +1 weapon and each can cast 1d4 1st level Illusionist spells per day as if cast by a 4th level Illusionist.
