[Swords & Wizardry] New Spell: Gobsmacked

Gobsmacked

It is a great thing to know the season for speech and the season for silence.

Seneca (5B.C.-65A.D.)

Gobsmacked (Arcane)

Level 1

Range: 100 feet

Duration: Five minutes per level of spellcaster

This spell targets a single individual or creature of up to 4HD and causes them to be silenced for the duration of the spell if they fail a Saving Throw at -2. Affected persons and creatures can still move and act, but their speech is completely shut off. Snake oil salesmen confronting previous customers and defendants facing witnesses make good use of this spell, sometimes employing wizards to cast it for them. This spell would also be handy during a wizard’s duel as a nice opener.

    What can I say? I’m speechless. 🙂

  2. Lord Kilgore says:

Nice! I can imagine games were PCs may use it primarily on other PCs, especially if the gobsmacking carries over to the player.

I may have to have an NPC M-U (probably a gnome or leprechaun or something) pop up from time to time and sling this around…

  3. bat says:

    Thanks, both of you.
If Timeshadows is speechless that means that the spell works and I need to adjust the range in the post.

Such a simple spell, but I can see such chaos coming about because of it…
