[New Monster] Keepers of the Moon Garden

Keepers of the Moon Garden

“Why is there always something weird happening around us?” asked Koram, frantically pulling the strange little creatures off of his legs. They were gnarled little brown monsters that tittered and squeaked to each other in a language that neither the fighter nor his wizard companion, Chalk, could understand.

“It must be Fate,” Chalk replied right before biting back at one of the little monsters that had just bitten him, “or a curse.”

“Hmmm, probably a curse then. It’s not like we haven’t racked up a few of those,” Koram replied as he finally released his sword from its scabbard and started slashing.

“Nice plants though,” Chalk commented right before he unleashed a spell that froze several of the strange little men where they stood, “all of them are different, but they all glow the same creepy white.”

Many ages ago, when the Gods of the Night founded the wondrous Gardens of Nocturne, several devoted cults began their own small devotional moon gardens, small patches of white flowers that glow faintly under the light of the moon (a tradition that lingers to this very day). The Gods of the Night were moved by this act of reverence and sent a servitor race to watch over these small patches of earth and plant dedicated to them.

Small and gnome-like, the Keepers of the Moon Garden are gnarled like bundles of roots and twigs, but they are clearly living creatures, with bright milky eyes and hair and beards that resemble grass or moss. Dour and taciturn, the Keepers of the Moon Garden protect their charges enthusiastically. These strange creatures only have one real power; they are able to move through the earth like an earth elemental, they can meld perfectly into the ground, reaching out to strike or to drag victims underground to feed them and the Moon Garden. Abandoned or derelict moon gardens tend to house Keepers who have gone a bit more feral.

Note: these creatures are not associated with the Moonfolk (q.v.) and will attack them above all other targets as they see these monsters as enemies of the Gods of the Night.

    Hey, thank you again!

Sean, I am working with a publisher on a tidy version of this blog, more than likely to be released in increments, that will feature art and a few extras. I hope to create a super limited edition of this as well.
