Relzar’s Animated Rope
Gnybaro the thief stepped from the concealing shadows and crouched beside Chalk, the rascal sawed at the rope binding the wizard with the serrated blade of a wicked knife.
“How did you let this happen to you?” Gnybaro whispered.
“Would you hurry and cut him loose so I can be freed!” Koram hissed.
“That would be rather, nice, Gnyb,” said the cleric, Valance, in a low tone, “this rope is starting to chafe a bit.”
“I mean, Stork is a crafty enough wizard and all, but I thought that you three could elude him…” Gnybaro whispered with a smile.
“Gnybaro!” the three captives hissed in unison.
Relzar’s Animated Rope (Arcane)
Range: 20 feet per level of caster
Duration: 10 turns
A very simple spell, Animate Rope allows the magic-user to manipulate any type of rope, this rope can move like a snake and constrict a target or float across a chasm and secure itself on the other side to provide a sturdy means of crossing a span. When constricting a foe the rope will be broken by someone with a Strength of 16 or more, or can be cut as easily as any rope, although it will be difficult for the one being held to free a weapon to cut their bindings. When used as a rope bridge each ordinary rope can hold up to 400 lbs safely without showing strain. Any more weight than 400 lbs will cause the rope to begin to fray, and within 4 turns the rope will snap and send anyone crossing the span to plummet to the depths below. For every three levels a wizard can control an extra rope, for the purposes of creating a sturdier bridge or restraining more than one target.
Variant: At higher levels some wizards have been known to manipulate very thick ropes or metal chains.
