[New Monster] Yogala (daemon attendant)

Yogala (daemon attendant)

Klosk had lost Stork somewhere and was hedging his bets that Chalk and his companions would take him in. Desperately looking for hirelings, the wizard stumbled across a strange merchant that carried some of the most unusual stock.

Hours later the wizard had a trio of strange, lanky creatures bearing his few packages and magical gear.

“Are you sure that this is fine with you?” Klosk asked one of the spindly beings.

“It is what we do, our purpose,” one of the daemons replied. “We were conjured many centuries back to serve, and this we do happily.”

“As long as we are treated well,” added another with a toothy, sinister grin.

Among the strangest of daemons are the Yogala. These earthbound creatures are known as Daemon Attendants in some places and are often bought and sold to intrepid adventurers. In appearance the Yogala is slightly shorter than a human, with large eyes, ears and mouth, with a spindly frame covered in short, dark fur that ranges in color from black to a rusty red color.

Considering it their fate, the Yogala are often torchbearers, scouts or pack mules for an adventuring party. Enhanced vision, treat as darkvision to 90′, excellent hearing, these daemons can hear as well as a dog, an uncanny ability to speak bits of several languages (these creatures typically understand and can speak 1d10+4 different languages) and an intelligence on the lower end of the spectrum (around 7 on the Int scale despite their linguistic skills) make the Yogala into great henchmen and hirelings, although these creatures are non-combatants and only fight to defend themselves and what they are carrying.

The downside to the Yogala are their unnerving looks. When dealing with humanoids this might be a slight advantage, but some humans and demi-humans find these creatures strange and even a bit fiendish looking. If treated well the Yogala will be loyal and helpful, obeying orders without question. However, if mistreated these creatures will escape at the first chance they get. Some have even been known to harm those that were bad to them.

Cool creature. I can see some fun possibilities throwing one of these guys in with an adventuring party.

Thank you, Trey. I actually got the idea from the old bugbears from Ral Partha that looked a bit spindly and weird.
