“Wake up, something is out there!” whispered Nysser to Chalk.
“What is it?” the wizard asked back.
“Several somethings! We need light spells, fast!” the elf thief replied.
A half dozen fiendish dogs padded into the underground camp, snarling and clacking their teeth frightfully.
Chalk yelled and the camp awoke suddenly. Knat leaped from her tent, spells flying. Koram drew his Crystal Sword and began cutting. Valance conjured extremely large and brutish spiders from somewhere. The Scholar of Wexos threw a spell high into the cavern and it exploded in a shower of bright green light which seemed to burn at the fiendish hounds. Within minutes the beasts slunk off into whatever darkness they could find.
“And this was easier than traveling overland?” Knat asked the others.

Deep, deep underground, at the places where the furthest caverns touch the Mythic Underworld and the lower planes beyond, the Gnashing Mnark prowl the twisting byways of darkness. Infernal creatures raised from the Uncountable Abysses by fell wizards dabbling all the way down in the Eternal Night, the Gnashing Mnark are thing, dog-like creatures with huge constantly grinding and gnashing teeth. Once one of these monsters bites successfully it locks onto a victim and only a roll of “6” on a 1d6 will shake the creature loose. Each round after the first bite that the creature is locked on it automatically gets another bite attack, this time for 1d4 points of damage as the Gnashing Mnark is also struggling to keep hold of its prey.
Countless goblin and dark elf tribes have attempted to subdue and tame these creatures, but to no avail; the Chaotic nature of the Gnashing Mnark causes these unholy canines to turn against their masters time and time again.
