[New Spell] Give Strength

Give Strength

Nysser strained as he tried to bend the rusty metal bars.

I really wish Koram were here now!” the elf snarled as he kept struggling. “We shouldn’t have split up in this dangerous territory!”

Valance sighed deeply. The ogre mercenaries were hunting them in the ruins and their only way out was barred.

My master taught me a prayer…” began the priest of the Spider God, “..a spell that I can use to help you, but it will weaken me for a couple of days.”

Nysser stopped straining.

What?” Nysser exclaimed. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

It isn’t in my nature,” confessed Valance.

A quick prayer was uttered by the priest to the Spider God. This prayer sped swiftly through the aether to catch the ear of the monstrous deity just before it was about to devour another victim. With a shrug the Spider God granted the plea of his faithful cleric.

Nysser grasped the bars with unnatural strength and bent them easily just as the ogres caught scent of them.

Give Strength (Cleric)

Level 3

Range: Touch

Duration: One turn per level of cleric

In times of dire need (and sometimes to impress a crowd) a cleric may use this spell to give another up to four points of their Strength attribute for the duration of the spell. However, while the recipient benefits from additional strength, the casting cleric loses one point of Strength and Constitution temporarily, gaining them back at two points each per day and suffering any penalties resulting from the reduced attributes.

Good spell, the trade off of lending the strength really makes it work for me. That’s how magic should be: about sacrifice.

Thank you for the comment, Trey. This spell really hit it for me as well. It just came together in a great way. I hope I can do this again. 🙂

Trey has a good point & this is an excellent example of the benefits a no so nicely aligned cleric can play in a group. I do like Valance. He’s simply so low key evil.

Thank you for the comment, Needles. The spell is meant to run just as you guys have mentioned. Valance is loosely based upon One-Eye from Glen Cook’s Black Company series. He’s a charlatan, he’s out for himself, but he will help in a pinch, especially if it benefits him.
