[New Magic Item] Boots of the Betrayed

Boots of the Betrayed

Chalk looked over his shoulder as the adventurers were about to enter the Forest of Whispers, a dreadful and haunted wood. It seemed that about twenty men, armed and armored well, were in pursuit.

‘How can they still be on our trail? Do they have a hunter or a ranger among them?’ the wizard asked in frustration.

‘What have we recently picked up that could trace us?’ Nudge the gnome thief pondered.

Koram pointed at Valance’s flashy new boots.

‘You said they were magical, but never figured out what they did.’

‘Impossible! Well, highly improbable!’ replied the priest of the Spider God.

Chalk faced forward and dashed into the creepy trees.

‘No time to argue out there, we will figure it out later!’

Originally intended to be a cursed item, this enchanted footwear has become a way of tracking villains and ne’er-do-wells, the trick is just to get the boots on their feet. Also used to track mercenary units that are known to loot bodies, Boots of Betrayal, in the end, almost always betray the wearer.

Benefit: The current owner of a pair of these enchanted boots must find a way for their intended victim to put these boots on, the subtle magic of this footwear adjusts the size as the subject places the boots on their feet, always making them a ‘perfect fit’. Once on, the last person who owned the boots may see a trail left behind by the current wearer in the form of glowing footprints left behind. While this form of tracking is foolproof, the cagey intended victim might give these boots to someone else at the last minute or they may even be stolen before they are worn, thus causing more trouble than they are worth.

Usable by: Anyone.

It’s use requires some–uh, foot work–but might be worth it. 😉

Using footwork, that is so bad. 🙂
But yes, the idea is a magic item you need to work a little to get the desired outcome.
