‘Just give the dwarf back his magical frog,’ Chalk said.
‘Toad,’ corrected Valance,’ and I won him fair and square.’
Chalk eyed the priest of the Spider God.
‘Okay, mostly fairly.’
‘I’m tired of hearing the dwarf whine and he’s attaching himself to our company,’ the wizard said. ‘Handle it.’
Valance whispered to the strange toad and outstretched his hands.
It bit the dwarf.
‘No!’ the dwarf screamed and then vanished.
‘Okay. Let’s move before that little turnip wrangler finds his way back here,’ Valance said.
This obscure magic item is a variant of the homunculus which creates a strange toad-like beast the size of a bulldog that is rather handy to have around in dungeons and other treasure seeking endeavors. Many dwarf adventurers covet these odd constructs.
Benefit: A Treasure Toad is like a moving treasure chest, it is magically tough and can carry up to 500 average sized coins without being slowed. This magical construct does not need to eat or breathe and can be used to hide treasure in difficult place and can be recalled to its owner with a command word. If the Treasure Toad bites an enemy in combat (it will defend itself or its master or if commanded by its owner) there is a 25% chance per successful bite that the enemy will be teleported randomly to a safe location 300′ away.
TreasureToad: HD 4; AC 6 ; Atk 1bite(1d4); Move 6(Swim20); Save 16; AL N; CL/XP 4/75; Special: Teleport bite.
