Fellhorn nodded to the north.
‘There are orcs there, jabbering away,’ he said.
‘What are they planning?’ the gnome asked.
‘I don’t know, I don’t speak Orc,’ the druid admitted.
‘What good was that spell?’ the elf asked.
‘At least we know the nearest orcs are to the north and there are more than one of them,’ offered the druid.
The elf and gnome exchanged annoyed glances.
Deep Listening (Druid)
Range: One half mile/level.
Duration: One turn (ten minutes) per level of caster.
A druid with contact to the earth may cast this spell and listen for one particular subject (either a type of creature or an individual by name) with their ears and spirit; if the subject of the spell is within range the druid can hear and (if the creature has a language that the druid understands) know what is being said by and to the target. Note, however, that the target does not need to be sentient and that sentient creatures over 12 Int get a Saving Throw against magic or spells. If the save is successful the target of the spell has a sense that someone is listening in, otherwise they have no idea.
