[New Spell] Door to Yesterday

Door to Yesterday

Stork paused a moment before the oak door and whispered his new spell. The door seemed to shimmer momentarily, as if it were a mirage, and Stork opened it and went inside. Moments later he returned with a struggling halfling.

Vistis the Blue Mage laughed and threw a handful of gold pieces onto the table.

‘See? I knew this little sneak would return to that dilapidated inn!’ exclaimed Stork with a shark-toothed grin.

‘Where am I?’ asked the frightened halfling.

‘Probably one of the last places you wish you were after stealing from us and escaping,’ Vistis said through his heavily lacquered mask.

And then the screaming began.

Door to Yesterday (Magic-user)

Level 5

Range: Touch.

Duration: One round per level of caster.

When cast at a door this portal will transport anyone who passes through it to a location on the other side of a door that the caster has been to before in the past. The caster must have physically been there and the destination must have a door that the caster could or has accessed freely at another time. If there is enough time to pass through the door and come back before the spell elapses then those who make it back end up where they were when the spell was cast before they passed through the portal.

Should that read “if there isn’t enough time…” or do I need to re-read it again.

If there isn’t enough time you are stuck at the location that you went to. If there is enough time you make it back to where you were when the spell was cast, which may be where you want to end up.

Nods. So “go back and bring someone through to today, or go back and relive yesterday” and end up where you were to begin with, or spell duration runs out, pop, you’re back where you were when you cast the spell. And if it’s a relive yesterday thing, aren’t there two of you in that timeline now.

There are some very interesting conundrums to play with this spell. I like it.

I’m seeing a lost-in-time PC trying to prove to the rest of the party that they aren’t a doppelganger or high-functioning mimic. Or a lost-in-time dupe who becomes the BBEG.

The relive yesterday option is probably too powerful an add-on, but it does make for an interesting thought experiment. Maybe make it an option at a much higher level.

        Fun stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I like magic to sometimes be quirky and abstract, not just straightforward or utility in nature.
