From his vantage point Vistis the Blue Mage could only see Stork crouching in a dark corner of the room and waving his arms about now and then. Next to him a trio of hideous things, like giant caterpillars with the heads of vicious wolves writhed and strained at ropes restraining them. Ever since they had encountered a pit of those hideous things the illusionist had noticed that Stork was more excited than normal. Before too long a deal must have been struck for a strange claw-like appendage grabbed the rope restraining the things and drew the wriggling things into the darkness, causing them to squeal and yelp in terror. A burst of dark blue smoke and only Stork remained. He stood up and spun on one heel to face Vistis.
‘We now have a key to the land of shadows where we can go anytime,’ the wizard said holding aloft a strange key that seemed to move and shift a little.
‘You got that by trading off those things?’ Vistis asked.
‘Yes, you didn’t want to keep them did you?’ said Stork.
‘Oh no, of course not, I just didn’t realize that they were valuable,’ replied Vistis.
‘To the right buyer. Too bad we killed so many of them, we could have more buyers,’ sighed Stork.
Vistis could see that strange crab claw reaching for the ropes as the things struggled in terrror, possibly knowing their fate.
Wolfwyrm: AC 5 [+14], HD 2 (9hp), Att 1× bite (1d6+2) ), THAC0 18 [+2], MV 60’ (20’), SV D8 W9 P10 B10 S12 (8), ML 10, AL Chaotic, XP 225, NA 2d4 (2d10), TT V ▶ Those bitten by a wolfwyrm must Save versus Paralysis, a failure means all magical bonuses are negated for 1d4+1 days.
What at first appears to be another magical experiment is actually an advanced form of larva that are the chieftains and warband leaders of extremely evil humanoids (gnolls, bugbears, hobgoblins, ogres, etc) that have died and take on a form similar to regular larva except with evil wolf heads full of sharp fangs and bodies of slick scaled wyrms or wingless dragons which in this case scurry on dozens of tiny legs. Highly prized in Outer Planar trading. Infernal creatures use these as food, spies and the very rare advance to become demons or devils with maxium hit dice and a random extra spell-like ability.
