[New Spell] Scramblemap

Scramblemap

Uzeb the Wise paused and scratched his head while pondering the map before him.

‘There are no stairs here,’ he whispered aloud.

Jaundo the mercenary looked around somewhat puzzled.

‘You are right, I see no stairs,’ the fighter confirmed.

‘Could you take four steps to the left?’ Uzeb asked Jaundo.

The fighter shrugged and did as requested. Uzeb consulted the map again.

‘Ah! This makes much more sense. In the future I suggest not gambling with shady spellcasters. Present company excluded,’ the wizard said as he forged on deeper into the dungeon

Scramblemap (Illusionist)

Level 2

Range: Touch.

Duration: One day per level of caster or until dispelled.

The subject of this spell, if they fail a Save versus Spells with a -1 modifier, will unknowingly cause maps to show false information, mostly subtle and causing the wielder of the map to get lost, some jarringly obvious. This happens any time the target of this spell is within 10′ of any map. Even a map being created in their presence will be warped and not reliable. Those reading the map may make a Wisdom attribute check with a -1 modifier to determine that something is not adding up.

From the name of the the post, I was kind of expecting a magical map that you would show you your best route to safety, but could only be read while frantically running full-tilt away from some danger or pursuit. 🙂

That is not a bad idea for an optional magic item. Part of the point of my blog is to encourage this type of thinking.
